Ajay Devgan is one of the most sincere and intense actor of the Bollywood film industry. He was born on 2nd April 1967 to the famous action man Veeru Devgan. The moment his son was born Veeru Devgan knew that his son will be a famous actor one day. Ajay too left no stone unturned in proving his father right.
Ajay Devgan’s first film “Phool Aur Kaante”. He take position in bollywood by this film. Then he was very well in that type of consecutive films. And Ajay Devgan has reached superstardom with a series of well enacted roles in some good films.
Though most of his earlier movies were action films, he broke this trend when he starred in the comedy Ishq in which he acted with his future wife Kajol.This was followed by critically acclaimed hits like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam and Zakhm which earned him a National Award. His association with Ram Gopal Varma resulted in box office successes, notably Company and Bhoot.
Recently he has worked in successful films like Kaal, Golmaal and played the title role in the critically acclaimed adaptation of Shakespeare’s Othello titled Omkara.
He is originally from Punjab. His father is Veeru Devgan, a director and stunt man. His brother is Anil Devgan, a film director in Bollywood.
Devgan saw further success in 1999 when Sanjay Leela Bhansali cast him opposite Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai for the film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, which was again critically and commercially successful. Devgan received a nomination for Best Actor at the Filmfare.
He went on to be notably recognised for his association with filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, resulted in several successful projects, and was particularly noticed in 2002, with the drama Company, which earned him his second Star Screen Award Best Actor. The year 2002 proved to be generally good for him, as his performance in Rajkumar Santoshi’s The Legend of Bhagat Singh won him his second National Film Award for Best Actor.
In 2004, he starred in several critically appreciated films, like Mani Ratnam’s Yuva, Rituparno Ghosh’s Raincoat, which did not do as well at the box office.
In 2007, AJAY starred in Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag, which was the remake of the indian cinema landmark Sholay. The film was a major failure critically as well as commercially, and was credited as being one of the worst films of the year.
He married popular actress Kajol on February 24, 1999.
