Biography of Earl Webb


William Earl Webb (September 17, 1897 – May 23, 1965) was an American right fielder in Major League Baseball, playing from 1925 to 1933. He played for a number of teams, including the Boston Red Sox for 3 years. He was born in Bon Air, Tennessee and died in Jamestown, Tennessee. As of 2005, he holds the record for most doubles in a season with 67 in 1931 with the Red Sox.

He had a career batting average of .306 with 56 home runs, averaging 14 a year. He also was 2nd in the league in extra base hits in 1931 with 84. He batted left-handed, and threw right-handed.
