Tatenda Taibu (born May 14, 1983, in Harare) is a Zimbabwean cricketer.
He is a short, lively wicketkeeper and solid batsman, and is also capable of bowling right arm off spin. He made his debut for the national team in 2001, aged just eighteen (having made his first-class debut aged sixteen in the 1999-2000 Zimbabwean domestic season]], and by 2003 was appointed vice-captain to Heath Streak on the team’s tour of England.
Taibu was appointed national team captain in April 2004 following the departure of the ‘rebel’ players, who walked out on the national team in a dispute with Zimbabwe Cricket, and impressed many with his mature outlook and leading by example. He has steadily improved his wicketkeeping and batting skills throughout this time, adding to his own natural ability in these areas. As of April 2005 he had five first-class centuries to his name.
He plays for Mashonaland in Zimbabwe’s Logan Cup competition, and in April 2005 angered club officials by missing an important game to go on his honeymoon instead.
